First of all, IT’S MAY! where is the year going??
Last weekend I ran the Nike Women’s Half Marathon in DC and it was a great experience. You can expect Nike to host a fantastic marathon, but it was beyond what we imagined. I recommend this to everyone! Just a great first race!
I arrived at Union Station on Friday, and there were posters for the race everywhere! That really made the runners feel special/important. And there were posters all over the relevant subway stations. There was no way for DC not to know this race was coming.
Stef and Alexa arrived late on Friday night (after only 2 hours of sleep the night before due to projects and senior year of college), and we went to get our packets and t-shirts from the Expotique in Georgetown on Saturday morning. The Nike Expotique was amazing! There were DJs, several photo booths, and Luna Bar hosted a “cheer poster” station to print funny phrases on 11×17 cardstock (and eat a lot of Luna Bar samples, of course). We were near the Nike flagship in Georgetown, which had the entire 2nd floor full of their half marathon products. So much fun!
Not to mention the lululemon, H&M home, Anthropologie, etc…So Saturday we just wandered around Georgetown, shopping and eating and drinking milkshakes…
We were exhausted by the time we got back to our apartment that night. Probably not the greatest pre-race prep, but we survived.
Also, Saturday was pretty hot, but on the race day it was chilly and the perfect temperature. We were freezing while waiting at the starting line, but it was all good once we started moving.
Since this was our first race, we were really happy with our pace of 2:15. And especially with our Tiffany necklaces!!
We stayed in an apartment through airbnb…. it was ok. The owner had an indoor/outdoor cat and didn’t vacuum as well as she could have…. However, it was close to the metro and had a parking space for my sisters car. We always have fun anyway 🙂
SUCH a great accomplishment! I ran the Nike Women’s in San Francisco and you’re right – Nike sure knows how to put on a race! Congrats!
Thanks!! We’re considering the full marathon in SF, but definitely doing the DC half every year if possible 🙂
