Henry’s Quilt: 16-Patch

I FINALLY made Henry his twin-sized quilt. I bought this fabric back in 2024, and then I never got around to actually making the quilt. The fact is that he only sleeps under a fleecy construction truck blanket, and pushes quilts to the bottom of the bed, but a girl can try.

Here’s the details:

  • Noah’s Ark by Stacy Iest Hsu Fat Quarter bundle (this is from 2024, so it’s mostly available on etsy, but I didn’t want expired links. Sharing a quilt shop video of the collection)
  • The Sea and Me by Stacy Iest Hsu Fat Quarter Bundle (from 2023, so this is another video from a quilt shop showing off the collection) I used the blues/ greens, and didn’t use the mermaids unless I ran out of a color.
  • Neutral: Essex Linen in Natural as usual
  • Backing: Lush Lions Flannel (this is a flannel from Art Gallery Fabrics, so the quality is so much better than other flannels I’ve used)
  • Small Squares Quilt pattern. You don’t really need a pattern for this, and you can follow her blog post tutorial. But I like to buy stuff from my favorite online people.

Because I only used the blues from these quilt, I can make pink mermaid/ animal quilts now. These are screenshots from my TikTok videos, because that’s where I’m at with phone storage right now.

Making the 16-patch Quilt

This really took forever. I don’t know what else to say ha. I don’t have a ton of time for quilting, and I felt like I was never done making these blocks… considering I just made one for a baby shower quilt, I thought it would fly along. But it didn’t.

Also, I didn’t follow the pattern very well, so some of the blocks came out wonky, and I didn’t have enough room to trim them down.

If there’s one thing you should know about me, I am not a perfect quilter but it will look pretty good in the end.

Maybe I’m just good at the color selection, and I sew enough rows in a straight line for people not to notice all my mistakes.

Finishing the 16-Patch Quilt

I stayed up late one night to finish this because I needed to move onto the next project, and I just wanted it to be done. And it’s so cute.

I’m obsessed with this… as predicted, he mostly sleeps under a fleecy blanket, but this looks good on the bed.

Added a ghost tag for fun because he loves ghosts

And he loves lions.

Finished Aug 20
