Appliqué Heart Quilt

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

Remember a few months ago I posted this WIP? Well, it’s finally finished and was gifted for Christmas!!

This was only about a crib/lap size, so the quilting wasn’t too difficult. I decided to do stitch in the ditch for the grid of the squares, and then a meandering stitch inside the plain squares. My Elna is amazing with free-motion quilting 🙂 I made a mistake of using white thread on the back – the backing is a dark green minky fabric, and you can see all the knots and stitches :/

I should probably start adding quilting in the borders… but most of my quilts don’t even have borders…

My mom made these hearts around 15 years ago – she loves hand stitching and appliqué –  but never did anything with them. The original plan was to make a wall hanging, but my mom doesn’t feel like the colors or pattern matched her current style.

The colors went with my mother-in-law’s house though! So I was super excited to send this off to a good home!!

I made a little too much binding 🙂

I’m really happy with how many quilts I finished this year! I started the year with the t-shirt quilt, then the Irish Chain Crib Quilt, the Pinwheel Quilt, the Leaf Quilt, this little Christmas Tree Wall Quilt, and my Winter Quilt (more on that next week).

Happy New Year!
